Well, my first week on night shifts is going quite swimmingly if I do say so myself. The first few days are kind of a blur, because I still went on excursions in the daytime and didn’t get a lot of sleep, plus trying to figure out how to do all the reports. I’m totally comfortable being the only person on duty and making the final decisions without consulting anyone else, but there were certainly a few times when I was trying to figure out a report and under normal circumstances would have just asked someone around me. Not at night, I’m the only one!! So I muddled my way through all the reports and didn’t mess any of them up too badly. Every morning there is a 7am person who comes in first on shift and usually that person is someone with more experience than me so if there is anything I absolutely couldn’t figure out then I could ask them. But I’ve managed without too much assistance! Hooray!! I like the night shift, you never know what might happen and when it does, you need to be confident in your decision making skills. I think it’s making me a better worker already.
