CISV Remix

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in my teens, I was part of an interchange with an organization called Children’s International Summer Villages, or CISV for short. CISV is a fantastic non-profit organization that brings together people from countries all over the world. Check them out at:
There are different programs for every different age group, both my sister and I participated in this program growing up and it was amazing. I myself did two interchanges, in which 10 delegates from one country are paired with 10 delegates from another country and one summer the group spends a month in one country and the next summer the group spends a month in the other country. I did interchanges to both Denmark and Martinique. It’s an amazing experience, in the year between travels, you spend time getting to know the delegate you’re paired with, and in our case, learning Danish!
Anyhow, as fabulous as CISV is, let’s fast forward almost 15 years to a few weeks ago when the Carnival Legend prepared to call in Copenhagen and a group of people I hadn’t seen since I was 15 came to the ship to meet me. I have stayed in contact with these lovely Danes for this entire time and was so excited to re-unite with them after so many years. Not all of the delegates were able to come, however those that could make it had a wonderful time. We went to Tivoli and reminisced about our interchanges and told each other all about our lives now. It was a really powerful experience, and I’m so so thankful that I’ve made the effort to stay in touch over the years. It really inspired me to rejoin CISV and perhaps be a leader now that I’m ‘all grown up’! That is, if I relocate to a land-based profession!
